Or even you?

Maybe it’s a deeper issue at play.

Did you know that dopamine regulates our motivation and desire to move towards results?

Sure you did.

But maybe you might not know that dopamine has a base level which fluctuates based on past exposures.

So, the more ‘peaks’ people are having (chasing the feel good),

The lower we go on baseline as a way to compensate.

Think of this example.

Before the gym,

People might have a coffee which has an effect on up regulating dopamine receptors.

Then the coffee doesn’t cut it anymore,

So they load up on a pre-workout.

Then it’s music to get them revved up in a workout.

All these things lead to peaks in dopamine, yet people never really recover.

This is how you see people lose enjoyment of things in life that they once loved.

Food is a great example,

Studies show eating sugary / refined foods makes us have less of a dopamine response to natural whole foods.

Why is this important?

Clients (and you) might be heading for burnout.

If you can’t do things without a big dopamine hit,

You’ll keep lowering your baseline of dopamine and that’s bad.

It can end up in loss of motivation / desire,

Losing enjoyment in life and even depression.

Don’t even get me started about phones

So, what can you do?

Science shows us that we need work without the need for boosts.

We want to produce our dopamine by effort.

So next time your workout.

No music, No pre-workout.

Try it.

If you find that too hard,

It likely tells you (or client) that you are burning your dopamine system to the ground.

Many will likely shrug this off and think they are fine,

But some will look around and see how they are slowly losing enjoyment in life and want to change.

Up to you.
