I’ve been speaking to clients a lot recently about POTENTIAL vs ABILITY
And how potential is that magical, mystical place that we all want to get to yet can’t seem to find a way to just do it and act out of that special place
See the thing is (depending on how you look at it):
#1 you can’t ever get to your perceived full potential as that would mean your purpose and life is over
Result =
P.A.I.N.F.U.L.
OR
#2 you always act out of your fullest potential in each and every moment to what you’re aware of and able to with the knowledge and understanding you have of your life in that moment
And here’s the kicker word for ya:
ABLE in other words YOUR ABILITY
Some of you know I’ve been studyied the Jungian approach with which I deeply resonate
And the dude dropped some serious bombs in his lifetime
One of them being:
WE RESPOND AT THE LEVEL OF OUR WOUND AND NOT OUR OWN POTENTIAL
Well… of fucking course when you really look at it!
We can only ever allow ourselves to respond based on our perceived (physical and emotional) pain point
And what we’re not aware of internally will always show up externally in our life experience to help us become aware of it
Some, will take it with gratitude as an epic life lesson turn it around and thrive!
Yet most…
Most will point fingers and blame the world and their life for being shit to them…DOH
If you think about it (all from the mighty Greeks)Psyche = soul
Psychotherapy = listening to the soul
Psychopathology = the suffering of the soul
Now…If we do not choose to be psychotherapeutic towards our own soul and being
We ignore the signs and the whispers
I always say: It’s not about who it speaks to, it’s about who listens!
It talks to us constantly and if we’re able to recognise what’s our story vs our soul’s truth
We’re able to express and put into motion (back to the magic word)
➡️ OUR ABILITY in each and every moment to move towards our potential aka the expression of our soul aka the self-individualisation aka our gift to the collective…
(It is the journey that brings us happiness and no the destination -another one of my all time fave quotes, this time from Peaceful Warrior the movie – if you haven’t watched it – go do it!)
Our only job here on this planet and in this meatsuit we chose as our vessels to self express through whatever our vocation is at any given time
And remember vocation is not your job or career although if you’re listening to your soul it absolutely can be! Vocation is what we are being drawn to and that changes throughout our life
Just as we change as human beings, change after all is the only constant…So a question I’d love you to ask yourself today is:
Am I willing to feel safe within myself to look silly at times, to look glorious in others, to look anything and everything in front of the judgment of others (they’ll always judge so stop fantasising about a judgment free world in the first place)
For the sake of my soul being honoured!
For the sake of me being sane!
For the sake of fulfilling my only purpose I have here – by being whatever the fuck I want to be!
OR
Am I just going to continue walking my path hoping that one day… (some day there won’t be another day remember?) I’ll live up to my full potential…
Some day I will find my true purpose…
And one day… I’ll take my last breath regretting not ever living my life fully…
